Friday
It was Friday, and Hope should have been tired. But she wasn’t. She felt more alive than she had all year. She was fueled by the fact that her presentation magically came together at 1 A.M., and she was excited to share it with the executive team. She was also thrilled that she, Lauren, and Jack had another wonderful night together. She thought of them as she sat in her office and smiled at the fact that Lauren had made a No Complaining poster and put it on her bedroom door. I should do that here at work, Hope thought, and she smiled even more.
Day 2 of their No Complaining Fast went very well, and at dinner they agreed to try it for a week. “A whole week, YES,” shouted Jack as he pumped his fist in the air. When Hope asked her children what they liked about the No Complaining Fast, Lauren said she was happy to see her Mom smiling again and talking about positive things, and Jack said he was just glad he didn’t have to hear his Mom and sister fight anymore. Yet Hope knew they liked the No Complaining Rule for a far bigger reason. Things were starting to feel normal again, and they could sense it. They just wanted their life back the way it was. Even though I can’t make things exactly the way they were, at least I can give them the very best of myself, Hope thought. She walked over to her bookshelf and pulled out a book that inspired her several years ago. She loved just taking a book off the shelf, opening it randomly, and reading the page she opened to. She felt whatever she was supposed to read would be right there for her and this time was no exception. The book said,
